Suttons Bay Travel Guide

Just north of Traverse City along M22 you will find the quaint, quiet village of Suttons Bay. Suttons Bay lies on the Leelanau (Tarte) Trail, 17 miles from Traverse City through beautiful countryside, making it the perfect destination to bike Leelanau County.

  • HIVE Coffee (previous Suttons Bay location for Mundos Coffee) - Hive Coffee Company was created through a collection of dreams and desires to do good. Their goal is to ensure every guest feels welcome and at home in their space and help focus on local mental health organizations and global honey bee conservation through their shop.   • Pedaling Beans Coffeehouse: Located halfway between Suttons Bay and Leland this is the ideal spot for a quick stop on your way over to van's beach. This is also a great spot to stop and view both north and south Lake Leelanau Drink to try: Pedaling Beans Mocha

Shopping Stops:

Poppy Things: Specially curated collection of small makers from Leelanau county and women owned businesses nationwide. This is a great stop for local gifts and handmade items.

Wild Lettie: This shop's designs are bold, colorful, and packed with a super-witty punch—because drab and boring just isn't their thing. Their gear is crafted for outdoor lovers and built on a love for nature. They proudly utilize eco-friendly resources and exercise sustainable business practices to protect the planet and all the amazing wild places where they love to play and stay.

  • Martha’s Leelanau Table: Martha's has a cute small town bistro atmosphere that is enchanting. The food is delicious and best enjoyed outside on the patio on a warm summer night.

  • Hop Lot Brewing Company: Hop Lot encompasses everything that you imagine when you think of Northern Michigan. Campfires going, music playing, beer flowing, smoker cooking, a friendly game of bags. Hop lot has something for everyone in the family and is a personal favorite a summer night. In the winter, they resurrect igloos and you can have a drink while watching the snow fall.

  • Boone’s Primetime Pub: Boone's Prime Time Pub has been a long time favorite eatery for locals and vacationers in Suttons Bay, MI. From its quintessential stone and log cabin look to the selections of hand-cut steaks, fresh fish, handmade burgers & its Massive Mary, the Prime Time Pub says, “relax, you’re up north.” Join them on the beautiful rooftop deck during Michigan's stunning summer and fall seasons.

  • MAWBY Sparkling Wines: Mawby is unique to the Leelanau county wine scene as they produce only sparkling wines. Make a stop to taste their menu and pick a bottle to toast your vacation Drink to try: Blanc

  • Rove Estate Tasting Room and Vineyard: Rove is a favorite place to sip a glass of wine, eat a cheese board, and listen to some local live music. The outdoor patio overlooks miles of Leelanau County all the way out to the sleeping bear dunes. Drink to try: Riesling

  • Suttons Bay Ciders: Suttons Bay ciders has arguably the most beautiful views of the bay from their deck. Mix that with an assortment of delicious hard ciders it is an ideal spot to spend an afternoon in Leelanau county Drink to try: Barrel Rider

  • Shady Lane Cellars: Shady Lane has a spacious outdoor patio that over looks their wine grapes. It is a favorite of families with children because there is room to roam with a glass of wine in hand. Drink to try: Blaufrankisch

  • Boathouse Vineyards Tasting Room: In close range of Traverse City Wineries, the Boathouse Vineyards Tasting Room is situated on The Narrows, a beautiful waterway connecting North and South Lake Leelanau. Visitors can enjoy one of our wine flights or wine by the glass either on our covered porch or on our adirondack chairs watching the boats go by. And, of course, boaters welcome

  • 45 North: With a strong commitment to sustainable farming practices, the winery actively farms 35 acres of several varietals including Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Vignoles, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Pinot Noir. The magic happens in the vineyard, as they say, but the finishing touches take place in the on-site production building where the grapes are crushed, refined, aged, bottled, and labeled. It’s truly a vineyard-to-bottle operation.

  • Two K Farms Cidery and Winery: Two K farms brings together the best of both worlds, hard cider and wine! Enjoy a beverage at on their farms or grab some cans to go. Drink to try: Lee Point.

Family Activities:

  • Suttons Bay Bikes: Public beach one block from the main strip. Swing set and picnic tables on the beach.

  • Bahle Farms Golf Course: A beautiful golf course that winds through the cherry orchards of Leelanau County.

  • Van’s Beach: A long beautiful stretch of Lake Michigan frontage known for finding Leland Blue stones.

  • Leo Creek Preserve: A favorite family stop to walk through the gardens, visit the creek, and run barefoot through the woods

  • Leelanau Trail: A multi sport trail that runs 17 miles between Suttons Bay and Traverse City. You can access the trail on Shady Lane a mile from the property

  • Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore: You can't visit Leelanau County without seeing the National Lakeshore. The pyramid point hike is a fan favorite!!
